RUNNER’S SPOTLIGHT: ADELE STEVEN AT NEW YORK CITY MARATHON

Huge congratulations to Adele Steven who on Sunday 6th November 2022 completed the New York Marathon! It was one of the hottest and most humid NYC Marathons on record.

The New York City Marathon is 26.2 miles long with an elevation gain of 260m. The course runs through all 5 boroughs of New York City, starting in Staten Island, passing through Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan (not once but twice). After running through all of New York’s Borough, Adele then crossed the finish line in Central Park, Manhattan in 7:05:21. Well done Adele!

 
 

Adele is part of the Coopah community and used Coopah’s personalised training plan to train for the New York City Marathon! We caught up with Adele to hear what she loved about NYC Marathon and how she found marathon training using Coopah.

Adele’s Top 5 things she loves about NYC marathon:

  1. The atmosphere throughout the course is loud, proud and supportive even for those of us at the “party end” and the neighbourhoods compete to be the loudest and proudest

  2. The fact you get to run through the 5 boroughs so as a Brit it’s a great way to make sure you don’t just see Manhattan

  3. In terms of participation it’s one of the most diverse fields I’ve seen in terms of size and shapes and there is even a special “project finish” who specifically come out to cheer those finishing after 8 hours

  4. The day before the marathon you can do a 5km dash to the finish which is lovely for friends and family who come to support the marathoners as well as a leg loosener for those running the race. The atmosphere even then was unbelievable

  5. The reusable, fleece lined ponchos you get at the end! Taking that home with me as well as the medal! Not that I needed it last night

 
 

Adele’s Top 5 things she loves about Coopah:

  1. How flexible the training app is in terms of what goals you can set yourself. This time, it was completing the marathon but I’m going to reset it to go for speed now over shorter distances which is fantastic

  2. Flexibility again in terms of recognising your training has to fit around your life so you can move things around

  3. That it’s not just about running with the videos to show you stretching, yoga etc. it’s therefore a holistic training tool which is so important

  4. The lovely coaches you can call on anytime if you need to. A friendly voice and ear just when you need it

  5. How simple and straightforward it is to set up and manage
