Pete’s travel stories - The famous Hong Kong Peak

This month, we have another amazing travel story from our co-founder, Pete.

By Peter Cooper

Many people visit HK as a stopover. They take the tram up to the peak and take some fantastic photos, but did you know you can run to the top and then enjoy a 5km circular route at the top?

I spent two years in Hong Kong, and it has an extraordinary place in my heart. It became a weekly hobby to run up the morning trail and then make the 5km loop.

For those visiting on a stopover, what better way to get rid of the jetlag?

During my first visit to Hong Kong, the hotel concierge told me there is nowhere to run; it is too busy; how wrong was he!

Hong Kong is famous for its trails. I recommend watching the Amazon Prime documentary called 'Breaking 60', proving that concierge was wrong!

Anyway, back to the peak. Want to help your jetlag? Run up a mountain! The perfect way to get a healthy dose of endorphins and take in some breathtaking views.

The best thing about this run is, you have to go slow!

Why? Because you will want to keep stopping for photos! You see both sides of the city, the impressive skyline and the beautiful ocean and outlying islands.

Once you start running, you will wonder what type of terrain you are on. The path is perfect smooth tarmac, but the views will make you feel like you are trail running.

It's best to tackle this route at Sunrise and continue to the Highest point or at Sunset when you can see the city glow.
