How to Predict Your Marathon Time Based on Your 10K
INTRODUCTION
Hey team 👋
Let me guess—you’re trying to figure out how to fit marathon training into your already jam-packed schedule. You’ve got work, family, travel, social plans, a never-ending to-do list… and now, somehow, you’re meant to squeeze in long runs, intervals, and strength training too?
I get it. One of the biggest questions I hear as a coach is:
“How do I balance marathon training with my life?”
So today, I want to give you some real, practical advice to help you navigate that challenge—whether you’re in the middle of a hectic work week, juggling childcare, or navigating festive chaos like Christmas.
Because let me tell you: you don’t need a perfect schedule. You just need a plan that works for you.
PLAN LIKE A PRO (BUT STAY FLEXIBLE)
Planning is your secret weapon when it comes to balancing marathon training with a busy life.
You don’t need to be a spreadsheet wizard, but taking a few minutes at the start of each week to look at your calendar and slot in your key runs? Game changer. If you’ve got a packed weekend with a wedding, a birthday party, and a 10-hour round trip to visit the in-laws, that’s probably not the best time to schedule your long run. Can you move it to Thursday morning instead?
And yes—even Christmas is a factor. If you know Christmas Day is going to be wall-to-wall cooking, hosting, unwrapping presents and managing hyper kids, don’t wait for the guilt to creep in. Move your run earlier in the week, get it done, and enjoy the roast with zero stress.

How Coopah Can Help
With Coopah, your training plan is fully flexible. You can move any workout to a different day, reduce your weekly training load, or even pause your plan temporarily. The app lets you plan like a pro—even if life feels like chaos.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, GO WITH THE FLOW
Now, planning is great. But sometimes—even with the best laid plans—life throws a curveball. And here’s something you really need to hear:
It’s okay to miss a run.
That skipped long run because your child was sick? That interval session you missed because work exploded? It’s not the end of your training.
Too often I see runners spiral into guilt when they don’t hit every session. But training isn’t about perfection—it’s about consistency over time. One missed workout won’t stop you from crossing that finish line. I promise.
If your week has gone sideways and all you can manage is a 30-minute run, do it. That small dose of movement is still progress. It all counts.
How Coopah Can Help
If you know in advance that your week is going to be manic—maybe you’re working late shifts, traveling, or covering childcare—you can reduce the number of training days in your plan. Coopah adapts to your reality. No guilt. No pressure. Just support that fits around your life.
MARATHON TRAINING LOOKS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE
One of the biggest myths I see out there is that marathon training has to look a certain way. That you need to run five times a week. That you can’t ever skip a session. That more is always better.
But the truth? The best marathon training plan is one that works with your life.
Some of you are nurses or shift workers doing 12-hour days. Others are parents juggling kids’ drop-offs, homework, and teething toddlers. Some of you travel constantly for work. And some of you are balancing all of the above.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to how to fit marathon training with your life. So instead of trying to force your world to match your training plan, let’s flip that around—and build your plan to support you.

How Coopah Can Help
You don’t have to figure this all out alone. With Coopah, you can message your coach any time. Whether you need help adapting your plan for a mad workweek, want advice about swapping runs, or just need to hear “you’re doing great,” we’re there for you—24/7, right in the app.
DON’T FORGET TO LOOK AFTER YOURSELF
This one’s big. Training for a marathon isn’t just about the miles—it’s about keeping your body and mind in a good place.
So if you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or stretched too thin, the kindest (and smartest) thing you can do might be to rest. Or shorten your session. Or swap your run for a walk and a deep breath.
Because long-term success in marathon training isn’t about pushing through burnout—it’s about showing up, again and again, with energy, motivation, and joy.
If you’ve had a tough week, cut yourself some slack. If you’re celebrating a holiday or family gathering and you want to be present—great. That’s part of life, and marathon training should fit into your life, not take it over.
YOUR TRAINING ISN’T JUST ABOUT THE NOW—IT’S ABOUT THE LONG GAME
Here’s a mindset shift I want you to take with you:
Your progress isn’t defined by one week—it’s built over months.
Missing a long run in December won’t ruin your race in April. Skipping a speed session this week won’t derail your fitness forever. What matters is your commitment to showing up over time, adapting when needed, and remembering that you’re in this for the long run.
The more you build flexibility, self-kindness, and perspective into your marathon journey, the more sustainable it becomes. And the more likely you are to keep running long after race day is done.
LET’S BUILD A PLAN THAT WORKS FOR YOU
So if you’ve been worrying about how to make marathon training work with your schedule—whether that’s now, at Christmas, or any other hectic season—just know this:
You don’t need to train perfectly. You just need to train consistently, and in a way that supports your life.
